Forming Ideas for final design- The meeting between two magnets; attraction and repulsion.
Idea 1- A magnetic wall; A place were people go to release metal items that magnetize to a wall. Becomes a piece of art; sculptural. Items cannot be removed. Could have elements of a wishing well or idea similar to the padlock bridge in Paris.

Padlock Bridge Paris
Idea 2- Minimalism; Create a space that encourages the viewers to walk around objects in a space. The placement of the objects would make the persons interact with the space as well as each other; coming together to move through tight spaces and apart to go around objects( attraction and repulsion).
Robert Morris- Artist Model; Minimalism Instillation. Untitled (Three L’s) (1965)
1964. Seven geometric plywood structures painted grey.
Final Idea- Sticking with the function of the space being a bar and the elements of repulsion and attraction. But also combining other ideas all into one. Using the idea of a magnet wall at the bar makes it a more significant venue; magnet/feature wall. Adding elements of minimalism; design the bar in a way that conveys people coming together and apart as they move around the bar. They use of colour to evoke attraction/repulsion this could be an exterior element that introduces the idea to passers.
Have magnetic paneling above the bar; stuff hanging from above would look cool. Have a drink then contribute a metal item to the magnetic feature.Use the rafter beams but turned sideways to support both bar and the magnetic roof segments. Hang the bar and magnet roof panel from the actual roof; suggests ideas of magnetic force like floating.
Sketches figuring out shape of the bar/tables. Keeping in mind the idea of how we move around a space. By having sections that encase persons and bring them together(attraction) but with elements of repulsion walking around the outer faces of the bar spaces versus the center sections. Two clear defining areas splits the persons into two main groups; you have to choose which half of the room you want to be situated on. The basic lay out only provides space for persons to circulate around the bar area; idea of magnetic fields. Floor- Concrete impression of magnetic field lines. The use of contrasting colours. |
Section Drawing The use of basic seating; unfixed allowing for movement to where ever is appropriate. |
Plan Drawing
Elevation Drawing Using two contrasting colours for each door then bringing them together as opposites attract in terms of magnets; contradiction. |
